Getting in the ring.

Boxing. Defined as “the sport or practice of fighting with the fists, esp. with padded gloves in a roped square ring according to prescribed rules.” I’ve never been a violent person. I’ve never been known for my agility and speed. It was by chance that I became involved in boxing. A colleague of mine graciously offered to show us some moves. While it was more difficult then I expected; this heart-pumping workout soon became an addiction for me. Your back and shoulders burn with fatigue and you become so winded you feel as if you are going to throw up.
Yup, I said addiction.
That’s what happens when you are pushed to the limits in exercise. You soon forget the pain and exhaustion and the endorphin induced “high” takes over. It wasn’t long before I was looking into boxing gyms in the Boston area.
Enter The Ring Boxing Club ( I discovered this unique gym from a BuyWithMe deal at the beginning of the year. It would allow me to participate in classes for one month. With more than 60 classes offered a week, this seemed like a flexible alternative to boring cardio.
Boring this was not! From learning the uppercut and rear cross to cardio intervals like jump roping and jumping jacks, this was one of the most intense workouts I’ve ever done.
This is definitely a fad I wouldn’t pass up. If you are interested in a hardcore, powerful workout this is just it! I also highly recommend The Ring. It was a great introduction to the sport as well as very professional environment for those with experience.

Workout Rut.

Growing up I was constantly trying out new sports and activities. I never seemed to be satisfied with just one; I loved being introduced to new teams. This personality trait definitely translated to my career. I am always on the move. I teach Spin and muscle conditioning classes at 3 different gyms throughout Boston and in addition I am a personal trainer.
This blog idea came about when I got stuck in my own workout rut. I wanted to be challenged, to be pushed, to step out of my comfort zone. An avid runner and Spin instructor, I began thinking of high intensity, total body workouts. After researching classes in my area I decided to begin this journey with a sport I never thought I would expose myself to. Now that I think of it maybe “expose” is the wrong word.

Welcome to the first blog by yours truly, the Trendy Trainer! Much to your surprise this blog will not be filled with vibrant images of the latest Lululemon jackets or pants. This blog will not be plastered with brands such as Nike, Adidas and Underarmour. Instead the “trends” I will be following are the physical ones. The hot fads that are currently taking the health clubs by storm and transforming individuals lives daily. From California to Maine, these classes fill with people who are passionate about that certain style of exercise.
Throughout this year I will explore the many new trends and crazes in this ever changing fitness world. I will reach out of my comfort zone to expand my knowledge of exercise for the betterment of myself and my clients. I want to push myself into places I wouldn’t normally go- a 100 degree room for example. I want to laugh at myself because of my pure lack of coordination. I want to experiment, sweat, bleed and even fail at some of these crazy trends that are sweeping the fitness nation.
Join me as I conquer this goal and blog about my experiences. Hopefully this will inspire you to try something new as well! Whether it’s a new exercise class or simply getting back into a workout routine, let this motivate you into beginning your own path to health and wellness. Enjoy!
