It’s Sunday! And over here that means a few things…

Batch cooking.
And more football.

Today is a different kinda Sunday though. In true autumn spirit we are going apple picking AND wine tasting. Yup. You heard that correct. Of the many orchard options in the burbs of Boston, there is one that has won my heart. Nashoba Valley Winery is both a pick-your-own as well as a vineyard. With unique blends like plum, Baldwin apple or blueberry Merlot, how can you go wrong?

Where did this week September go? It’s starting to get colder here; the leaves are beginning to change. With fall making it’s debut, I thought I’d compile some pictures from the week as well as a great outdoor workout options!

If you live in a colder climate like myself, you know there are not many more months left of being active outside. So go do it now before we are stuck indoors for the next 6 months! A hint of Fall.

As I was driving home yesterday I saw two things that confused me. 
-A girl walking home from the gym in just a sports bra
-A woman walking home from the T eating an ice cream
I was in my car. My heat was blasting. Contradiction? Seasonal confusion?
While writing this I realize I’ve been confused a lot lately. All revolving around the weather. 
While witnessing this I became very motivated to cook something seasonal. Something that screamed FALL. I stopped by Trader Joe’s on the way home from my much needed massage and picked up these triangles of goodness. 

Now for a sauce. I didn’t want anything too heavy. Something that complimented the sweetness of the pasta, not competed with it. A hint of pumpkin? Dash of nutmeg? Done. 
Now about that weather… 
Autumn Pumpkin Ravioli 
Serves 1-2
Prep time: 14-20min

1/2 package TJ butternut squash ravioli (I froze the other half!)

2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp pumpkin purée
2 tbsp almond milk
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Dash of cinnamon

Bring water to a boil in a med sized sauce pan. Add ravioli and cook for about 3-4min. Once done, strain and leave to cool. In the same sauce pan, over low heat, add butter, pumpkin puree and milk. Whisk and bring to a simmer. Add in the spices and salt. This sauce will thicken quickly so make sure to keep an eye on it. 

Pour the raviolis back into the sauce pan and stir. Plate and hit with a dash of cinnamon! 

Turn up the heat, light some candles and enjoy with a nice glass of Cab Sav 🙂

Who wears short shorts?

So I promised a friend I would run with her today.

2 problems.

#1. I’m really picky about what I wear to run in. Crops or hind shorts.
#2. I woke up at 5am this morning and forgot both.

Solution? HBS lost and found! Normally I might think this is gross, but my friend is doing a triathlon this weekend and I knew she really needed my support. I rummaged through the L&F; only to come across a black pair of Champion shorts. Booty shorts.

Oh yea. I forgot about problem #3.

I hate my legs.

I’ve always had muscular legs. I teach spin multiple times a week, I’m a runner, enough said. Normally I spin in crops or wear pants when I’m working. So when I saw those shorts were my only option I was nervous.

Everyone has insecurities. This is mine.

When I was in the midst of gaining the courage to throw these bad boys on a girl I work with said something that stuck with me. She said,

“Caroline, you ran a marathon. How can you hate a part of your body that carried you 26.2 miles?”

I stopped for a second and thought about it. She was 100% right. How could I criticize a part of my body that worked so hard and dug so deep to help me achieve my goals. 
So I put on the booty shorts proudly and ran with my friend. Because these legs took me the distance before. Because you can work through insecurities. Because these stems aren’t done working hard for me yet.  
I then proceeded to do a mean set of dead lifts. In the shorts.
