Hey There … I Remember You

Okay, maybe it hasn’t been that long. But still — poor TTT has truly taken a backseat as of late.

Let’s break down what’s been happening lately.


Transitioning from summer to fall was a less than glamorous time for me. Per normal, the mild depression that typically sets in this time of year ensued when I realized my last beach day was … Um … does it matter?? I used the word LAST.

I also discovered that while out on one of my longer training runs my right hip was giving me some trouble. After a few weeks of complete discomfort and limping around, I decided to defer my Chicago Marathon bib number until 2016 — See you next October, Chi-Town!!

This seasonal transition was also a unique one for me. Getting laid off in the summer meant loads of free time to ‘figure out what I wanted’, ‘enjoy the ME time’ and ‘take a break from it all’. Well, it seemed that as soon as the first leaf began to change my inner mind started screaming at me to …


But really. I had this mental freak out that resulted in me feeling a bit lost and unsure of what I really wanted to do with my life … my career. On top of that, there was this deep urge to decide this next chapter fast. Why? I’m not quite sure. But luckily I was able to shut that voice up and simmer the sense of urgency.


Nothing. Literally, nothing.

Oh … I applied to be on the Bachelor and never heard back. This means one of two things: 1. I wasn’t selected. 2. They want me to be the next Bachelorette and are surprising me at my apartment with balloons, a new car, a check … Oh wait, that’s Publisher’s Clearing House …

Friends & Family.

Now this is an amazing category. This past weekend my best friend of 11 years got married. I was honored to be standing by her side this past Saturday as she smiled, giggled and stated her vows. Joe, you are a lucky man … Love you both!!

Sunday, ironically, was my parents 35th wedding anniversary.

Gah, where do I begin? 

My parents met in high school, dated, broke up and then rekindled their flame after college. They were raised in the same hometown in Massachusetts, yet were brought up entirely differently.

Their relationship has survived long distance where texting and emails were not a thing and phone calls were limited to once a week due to cost.

Most importantly, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized just how incredible they are together. They’ve shown me what a marriage is, the work it takes and the ultimate reward of partnership.

Six-Pack Spotlight: Healthy Living & Passionate Blogger, Rachel Kaczynski


Let’s take a trip down memory lane a bit, shall we? …

Rachel and I met primarily through work but became closest while doing our side hustle … our passion … healthy living blogging.

Rachel is the founder, writer and creative brains behind the blog, Healthy Chicks. From recipes to roundups and fitness-focused interviews, Rachel has created a deliciously-nourishing site that I encourage everyone to check out.

So let’s get to know this Bostonian who loves red wine and running … just not in that order 😉

Caroline Earle: Currently, what is your favorite form of fitness?

Rachel Kaczynski: Right now I’ve been into running and yoga, a dream combo if you ask me! I’m actually training for the Reach the Beach Relay (which is next weekend, eek!) so I’ve been running quite a bit. It’s been brutal with this heat, so I’m sooo looking forward to crisp, fall weather.

I love balancing my cardio with yoga, which strengthens my core, keeps me grounded, and helps me stay focused. My favorite part of class is setting my intention in the beginning … I always come up with a positive mantra for myself, relating to whatever’s going on in my life at the time! Oh, and who doesn’t love a long, solid shavasana?

I’m always up for trying new things and pushing myself outside my comfort zone, so my workout routine changes often. Hey, ya gotta shake things up every now and then!

CE: How long have you been writing Healthy Chicks? What was your inspiration for starting it?

RK: I’ve had my Healthy Chicks blog for about 8 years now, but I’ve always been into writing! Even as a kid, I had such a passion for crafting stories and writing the night away in my diary. Funny enough, the first blog I started was actually all about relationships and my tales of singledom … it’s pretty hilarious looking back on those posts 10 years later.

Healthy Chicks was born out of my pure love for living well & helping other women, and it’s definitely evolved with me over the years. When I started the blog, my definition of health was skewed. I thought living a healthy lifestyle meant being skinny, eating fat-free everything and limiting my calorie intake.

I now know I was way off!

Today Healthy Chicks is a community where women can come together to feel good, find inspiration, and lift one another up! To me, health is more than what you eat; it’s how you live, how you feel in your body, and what you do to feed your soul!

Through my writing & health coaching programs, I show women how to nourish their mind, body and soul so they can quit dieting and depriving an start living a life full of bliss. After all, life is too precious to waste it on dieting and obsessing over the scale!

CE: The last movie you saw … Go!

RK: Cinderella, the original. No joke. We were away in Portland, Maine with friends recently and rented an adorable little beach cottage. Their movie collection was chock-full of VHS classics, so Cinderella it was. We also watched Beethoven and Scooby Doo! It was super nostalgic watching some of my old favorites … and it totally made me miss the days of the VHS and going to the video store with my friends on a Friday night.

CE: Tea, coffee or neither. What is your caffeinated beverage of choice?

RK: Coffee during the morning and tea at night … always! I am a huge java-lover, and typically just drink it black with a splash of almond, coconut or whole milk. I also love iced mocha lattes for a special treat once in a while!

At night, I have become such a grandma lately and there’s nothing I love more than curling up on the couch with my journal, a hot cup of herbal tea (Yogi is my fave!) and some incense burning in the background. I promise I still have a social life … well, sometimes!

CE: What is the first thing you do in the morning and last thing you do before bed?

RK: There was a period of time where I got into a really great routine — I’d wake up, breathe in some essential oils (my favorite is Balance by doterra!), meditate for about 30 minutes, and set my intention for the day. I felt great and it was such a positive way to start the day!

To be honest, lately my morning “routine” is usually checking my phone (it pains me to admit!), followed by some writing and always a big glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon if I have it on hand!

Last thing I do before going to bed? Saying “goodnight” and “I love you” to my hubby.

CE: What is your healthy living mantra?

RK: Do what works for you, and above all learn to love yourself!

It may sound corny, but I firmly believe that you will not get what it is you want out of life (your ideal weight, a boyfriend, that dream job, you name it) if you first don’t give yourself a giant dose of some good ol’ self-love! Practicing self love means being patient with yourself, believing that you can and that you are beautiful, fueling your body with nourishing foods + activities, and trusting your body.

It’s simple, but something so many young women struggle with!
