30 by 30: Yes, It’s a Thing

giphy

Don’t worry. I did.

And now that my 29th is in the rear-view mirror, I got to thinking about creating a bucket list specifically designed to be accomplished before I hit the big 3-0.

I have to admit, this idea came from two sources — my mom, who put together a killer ’60 by 60′ list and accomplished to my knowledge all successfully, and Becki, an inspiring Boston blogger who I often see at fun fitness events in the Hub.

Before I get to my 30 ramblings, let me just tell you … this was a challenge. Try thinking of even 10 things you want to accomplish — within reason — and it’s a toughie. But I did it. And I have a year to complete.

So let’s get started.

  1. Travel somewhere solo.
  2. Do a triathlon
  3. Write one letter — snail mail, duh — to a friend each month. #RAK
  4. Grow a garden.
  5. Go skydiving.
  6. Donate to charity; friends running the marathon, volunteer time, etc.
  7. Run a 1/2 marathon. And PR.
  8. Take a road trip to somewhere I’ve never been.
  9. Get a new tattoo.
  10. Attend at least 3 concerts this year.
  11. Begin to write my book.
  12. Learn a language.
  13. Go hiking.
  14. Unplug for an entire day — I’m talking no phones/computers/TV for 24 hours.
  15. Learn how to drive a stick shift.
  16. Visit a brewery.
  17. Surprise my parents by taking them out to dinner.
  18. Stay at a B&B.
  19. Do 10 unassisted chin-ups.
  20. Go camping.
  21. Buy a coffee for the person in back of me in line.
  22. Deadlift over 200lbs. Again.
  23. Spend an entire day at the beach; sunrise to sunset.
  24. Do SUP yoga.
  25. Go zip lining.
  26. Try lobster (yes, my parents have a house in Maine. And no, I don’t remember ever trying it).
  27. Say ‘yes’ for an entire day.
  28. Pay off my credit card.
  29. Plant a tree.
  30. Start planning my 40 by 40 list ūüôā

I’ll keep y’all posted as I start checking things off my list. Better get started …

The Weekly Report [In GIFs] 11.8.15

Let me paint you a picture of what is currently happening in my apartment right now …

I’ll back up … Today I ran the Spartan Race at Fenway Park. My 3rd year doing it. Is it challenging? Sure. But it’s my awesome team of 15 that makes the 15,908,323 burpees, seemingly impossible traverse wall, rope climb, sandbag carry, stair sprints, bleeding hands and bruises all worth it.

This is not to say my body doesn’t hurt right now. Because it does.

In fact, it feels like this happened to it … multiple times:

My current facial reaction when I realize I electively decided to do this race:

Don’t worry, like a good trainer, I made sure to recover and rehydrate with a whole lot of this … ok, maybe just 2:

** Side note: This kid has mad skills. They also look 17. **

Excuse me while I continue to ice my shin, elevate my legs and drink a gallon of water.

Moving on.

Friday night I saw Amy Schumer perform in Boston. My exact face when I found out my friend got us tickets:

She was hilarious. She wore slippers on stage. And she had zero filter (amen).

So¬†before I get¬†back to —¬†who am I kidding? It’s 8 p.m. and pitch dark outside. I’ll be asleep in 30 minutes —¬†¬†This week gives some of us a big ‘ole reason to smile.

I’m talking about Pay Day. Yes, I capitalized it. It’s that important.

Now pardon me while I go dip my big toe in B’s glistening pool filled with floating¬†hundos.

Splish-splash.

Hey There … I Remember You

Okay, maybe it hasn’t been that long. But still — poor TTT has truly taken a backseat as of late.

Let’s break down what’s been happening lately.

Life.

Transitioning from summer to fall was a less than glamorous time for me. Per normal, the¬†mild depression that typically¬†sets in this time of year ensued when I realized my last beach day was … Um … does it matter?? I used the word LAST.

I also discovered that while out on¬†one of my longer training runs my right hip was giving me some trouble. After a few weeks of complete discomfort and limping around, I decided to defer my Chicago Marathon bib number until 2016 — See you next October, Chi-Town!!

This seasonal transition was also a unique one for me. Getting laid off in the summer meant loads of free time to ‘figure out what I wanted’, ‘enjoy the ME time’ and ‘take a break from it all’. Well, it seemed that as soon as the first leaf began to change my inner mind started screaming at me to …

FIGURE IT OUT.

But really. I had this mental freak out that resulted in me feeling a bit lost and unsure of what I really wanted to do with my life … my career. On top of that, there was this deep urge to decide this next chapter fast. Why? I’m not quite sure. But luckily I was able to shut that voice up and simmer the sense of urgency.

Love.

Nothing. Literally, nothing.

Oh … I applied to be on the Bachelor and never heard back. This means¬†one of two things: 1. I wasn’t selected. 2. They want me to be the next Bachelorette and are surprising me at my apartment with balloons, a new car, a check … Oh wait, that’s Publisher’s Clearing House …

Friends & Family.

Now this is an amazing¬†category. This past weekend my best friend of 11 years got married. I was honored to be standing by her side this past Saturday as she smiled, giggled and stated her vows. Joe, you are a lucky man … Love you both!!

Sunday, ironically, was my parents 35th wedding anniversary.

Gah, where do I begin?

My parents met in high school, dated, broke up and then rekindled their flame after college. They were raised in the same hometown in Massachusetts, yet were brought up entirely differently.

Their relationship has survived long distance where texting and emails were not a thing and phone calls were limited to once a week due to cost.

Most importantly, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized just how incredible they are together. They’ve shown me what a marriage is, the work it takes and the ultimate reward of partnership.

I saw this and couldn’t agree more …¬†IMG_4646

Love you mom and dad <3

Phew, now that I’m done … What’s been going on with you??
